Project overview

The owner and CEO of GLK Group UK had recently acquired a number of companies in areas including, Banking, Accounting, Recovery, Vehicle Hire and Solutions. They had a branding strategy they named; SMART. A corporate type website with each of the respective divisions needed designing, building and hosting.

During the kick off meeting after we won the work. We received a high-level overview of each company and instructed to return with a finished project in 3 weeks

  • Colours and design to reflect a corporate finance website.
  • Design a corporate logo that conveys success
  • All copy to be written in professional yet plain English
  • Hosting of the domain
  • Email setup and initial training of staff

Design, Development, Decisions and Deployment

In the kick off meeting, the owner had provided us with the names of two companies whose websites matched the look and feel of the website they envisaged for their company. As shades of blue were the main colours on the two exemplars and are prevalent in many financial sector organisations we adopted three shades of blue to for the main colour blocks for the website and gold to be the accent colour. The psychology of colours and what feelings they evoke state that blue is a colour that associates with dependability, intelligence, trust, safety, and security and gold is associated with affluence and success

The logo colours came from the colours chosen for the website, a logo including a circular element often denotes all-in-one solutions. We coupled this with a gold coloured stylised graph with increasing arrow sizes to evoke feelings of growth and future success. The logo was well received by the client but not included on the website as the owner liked the simple CSS hover effect of the company name turning gold, it was however adopted for business cards and stationery etc

It became clear during the kick-off meeting that the owner preferred a minimalist or "less is more" approach to their business. We made them aware that for SEO purposes that any content on the site should be more in-depth. They decided that the content would remain as per their original request and only convey the highest level of information. They accepted that ranking may be affected, however due to the businesses customers and target customers known status to the owner, they only wanted the website to show what the company did and have a contact section.

After registering the domain with the company we use for hosting we provided the owner and their PA with access to cPanel to allow them to make minor changes and administer the email accounts for their domain. Finally a half day training session occured to go through cPanel and the functions they could use. 12 months telephone support included with the contract should they require it.
